No, absolutely not! You can continue to use your charcoal normally. In fact, when the charcoal is broken, its active surface area increases, which can even improve its efficiency.
Is there a risk if I accidentally swallow charcoal particles in my bottle or flask?
No, there is no danger. Activated charcoal has been used for centuries to treat intestinal problems thanks to its adsorbent and purifying properties. Even if you don't have digestive problems, swallowing activated charcoal particles poses no risk to your health.
How can I prevent charcoal particles from settling at the bottom of my bottle or flask?
To eliminate charcoal particles, simply scrub your charcoal under water for a few seconds with a hard sponge, without using any chemical cleaning products. This will help to remove the particles caused by cooking.
Can I give my pets filtered water with Woody Binchotan?
Yes, of course! If filtered water is good for you, it is also good for your pets.
Can I drink my filtered water when I return from vacation if I leave for a week?
We recommend consuming the water filtered by Woody Binchotan charcoal within 48 hours. If you are away for longer, do not throw the water away; rather give it to a plant and refill your flask or bottle with fresh water.
Can I boil/reactivate my charcoal every month?
Yes, even though we recommend doing it once every three months of use, you can reactivate your charcoal every month without altering its adsorption or filtration capabilities, especially in countries where the tap water is of good quality.
What should I do with my charcoal after 6 months of use?
After 6 months, you can recycle your charcoal by breaking it into small pieces to enrich the soil of your plants. You can also use it in your fridge, your cat's litter, or a shoe cabinet to absorb bad odors. It can also serve as an air filter or be used during a barbecue as regular charcoal.
Why is Woody Binchotan charcoal wrapped in plastic film?
Charcoal is an excellent air filter, and this plastic film temporarily blocks its filtering action to prevent it from absorbing pollutants before being used as a water filter.
Why do binchotan charcoals not come from Europe?
The types of wood essential for the production of high-quality binchotan charcoals only grow in certain specific regions of the world, such as Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam and Laos. Although all charcoals appear black, their effectiveness depends on the quality of the wood used, and only certain types of wood are suitable for the production of an efficient binchotan.
Where do the Woody Binchotan charcoals come from?
Our charcoals come from a small producer in Indonesia named Widha. A father of three daughters, Widha learned the master burner techniques from his father and took over the family business more than 15 years ago. He has been using and mastering the making of binchotan filters since his childhood.
Does Woody Binchotan charcoal come from coal mines?
No, not at all. Woody Binchotan charcoal is an activated charcoal, which means it is made from wood burned at very high temperatures (over 1000°C), not from fossil coal.
What kind of wood are Woody Binchotan charcoals made of?
Our producer Widha uses a very dense variety of wood called Pelawan wood (Tristaniopsis obovata), which is reflected in the fact that Woody Binchotans sink when they are submerged in water. Although other woods such as eucalyptus and bamboo are sometimes used, Woody Binchotans are made with a wood renowned for its excellent adsorbing capabilities.
Can I combine multiple smudging sticks in a single session?
